Catch basins and storm basin drains play a crucial role in managing pavement runoff and drainage, effectively handling both running and standing water. They also serve as key connection points in the storm drain system.
Over time, the structural integrity of your catch basin may weaken due to water and wear. At Pavemaks, we offer expert repair and rebuilding services to ensure your storm drain is ready to handle the next heavy rainfall, preventing flooding across your parking lot.
A dry well basin is a drainage solution designed to divert water away from your property, channeling it across the land before directing it to a public stormwater system, dry well, nearby water body, or allowing it to seep into the ground.
Although often used interchangeably, catch basins, storm drains, and storm sewers serve distinct roles. A catch basin is essentially a pit designed to “catch” water runoff from paved surfaces like parking lots and roadways. The water then flows from the catch basin through the storm drain and into the storm sewer, which carries it away from the area.
In simpler terms, a catch basin is a component of the larger storm drain system that connects to the local storm sewer network. Together, the system efficiently manages drainage for roads, parking lots, and other paved areas.
In many instances, parking lots lack adequate drainage, causing water to pool on the pavement. In such cases, installing a storm basin is often the most effective solution, provided there’s a suitable spot to connect the drainage pipes or allow the water to flow away.

To install a new catch basin, Pavemaks starts by assessing your parking lot's current drainage setup. Often, low spots in the surface prevent proper water flow. We excavate these areas, install a precast concrete catch basin with adjustment rings, and set a cast-iron frame and lid at the right height for drainage.
Next, we backfill the area with crushed aggregate, level, and compact it, then finish by reinforcing the perimeter with concrete for added strength and durability.

Catch basin replacement starts with a survey of utility locations, followed by excavation or saw cutting of the perimeter. The old basin is removed and disposed of properly.
A new precast concrete basin with adjustment rings is installed and connected to existing drainage lines. The original cast iron frame and lid are reinstalled at the proper height. The area is backfilled with crushed aggregate and compacted.
We then install a hot asphalt mix or offer reinforced concrete for added durability.
If you’re thinking about DIY repairs to a catch basin, it’s essential to have a qualified contractor present. Since the catch basin connects to the local sewer system, installation, repair, or maintenance requires expertise.
A poorly executed catch basin repair or adjustment could cause significant damage to the local sewer system, leading to costly repairs for which you will be responsible.
